RHINOSEPTOPLASTY IN ALMATY
A surgical procedure designed to correct a deviated nasal septum and improve the appearance and shape of the nose.
Plastic Surgery and ENT Clinic
Indications for Rhinoseptoplasty

Rhinoseptoplasty is performed to correct both aesthetic and medical defects. Aesthetic concerns include problems such as a saddle-shaped nose, a hump on the bridge of the nose, or a perforation of the nasal septum caused by an injury or previous surgery.

Medical indications include conditions that cause significant physical discomfort, such as:

• Congenital or acquired thickening of the nasal bridge;
• Lateral deviation of the nose;
• Perforation of the nasal septum;
• Chronic rhinitis;
• Chronic maxillary sinusitis;
• Frequent exacerbations of chronic tonsillitis and other conditions;
• Allergic reactions;
• Frequent headaches;
• Difficulty breathing through the nose;
• Frequent nosebleeds;
• Snoring accompanied by sleep apnoea.

Recommendations for Preparing for Rhinoseptoplasty

One month before surgery, the patient should minimise or, preferably, completely stop consuming alcohol and tobacco. Two weeks before surgery, it is important to stop taking blood-thinning medications, including antiplatelet agents and anticoagulants.

On the day before surgery, the patient should have their final meal no later than 3:00 p.m. and avoid emotional and physical overexertion.

Contraindications for Rhinoseptoplasty

Rhinoseptoplasty cannot be performed if the patient has any of the following contraindications:

• Blood disorders;
• Cancer;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Chronic kidney or liver disease;
• Pregnancy or breastfeeding;
• Moderate or severe anaemia or leukaemia;
• Predisposition to thromboembolic conditions;
• Obesity;
• Cardiovascular disorders;
• Systemic autoimmune diseases;
• Exacerbation of chronic inflammatory conditions;
• Purulent, fungal, viral—including herpes—or inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as pressure sores;
• Unspecified neoplasms as a concurrent medical condition;
• Absence of medical clearance from a dermatovenereologist following a positive Wassermann test;
• Absence of medical clearance from an infectious disease specialist following a positive test for hepatitis or HIV;
• Acute or chronic neuropsychiatric disorders or dementia;
• Absence of medical clearance from a relevant specialist confirming that the patient can tolerate surgical treatment;
• The procedure is not performed on patients under 18 years of age. Rhinoseptoplasty may also be postponed due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or the menstrual cycle.

How Is Rhinoseptoplasty Performed at Dr. Shbair’s Clinic?

As mentioned above, there are several techniques for performing this procedure. However, certain stages are common to all methods. First, the patient’s head is secured on the operating table, after which anaesthesia is administered. The surgeon then treats the skin and nasal mucosa with an antiseptic. Once the surgical area has been fully prepared, the doctor makes the planned incisions through which the bone and cartilage tissues are corrected.

The surgeon’s primary instrument is a piezo device. This innovative technology allows bone tissue to be precisely reshaped using ultrasonic piezo waves. By using the piezo device, the surgeon significantly reduces surgical trauma and the risk of bruising and swelling, thereby shortening the recovery period. During the final stage, the surgeon secures the cartilage of the nasal septum, applies sutures and dressings, and inserts nasal packing.

What Results Can You Expect after Rhinoseptoplasty at Our Clinic?

The duration of the recovery period largely depends on how carefully the patient follows the preoperative preparation instructions. The patient’s behaviour during recovery also affects the final result. When all the doctor’s recommendations are followed, the outcome will be as positive as possible: the shape of the nose will change in accordance with the plan agreed upon before surgery, and the nasal septum will become straighter.

Following the surgeon’s recommendations before and after surgery makes it possible to safely and permanently correct aesthetic defects, eliminate chronic inflammation, and resolve problems such as snoring and many other conditions that negatively affect health.

How Do You Prepare for Plastic Surgery?
During the consultation, we discuss the patient’s expectations and goals in detail, as well as the procedure and recommendations for recovery, helping to dispel common myths about plastic surgery.
Assessing the quality and elasticity of the tissues helps the surgeon select the most suitable surgical technique, taking into account the patient’s wishes and individual anatomy.
Every patient undergoes a complete preoperative examination at our clinic, including blood and urine tests, an ECG and consultations with the necessary specialists, to ensure the safety of the procedure and achieve the best possible results.
How Is Plastic Surgery Performed at Dr. Shbair Clinic?
The duration of surgery varies from one and a half to three hours. General anaesthesia is used in most cases, although local anaesthesia may sometimes be suitable. To make scars as discreet as possible, incisions are placed in concealed areas, such as natural skin folds.
After healing, a thin white line up to 1 mm wide usually remains at the incision site. We use absorbable sutures, so patients do not need to have them removed.
Several plastic surgery procedures may be performed during the same operation at the patient’s request, when medically appropriate.
Recovery Period
Recovery after plastic surgery is an essential part of the process. We emphasise the importance of taking special care of yourself after the procedure, particularly during the first four weeks. It is important to follow all postoperative care instructions closely to return to your normal routine as soon as possible.
Patients spend the first 24 hours after surgery at the clinic under the close supervision of our medical team. Everything necessary for a comfortable recovery is provided, including attentive care, balanced meals and a pleasant environment.
To support proper healing, patients are advised to avoid saunas, swimming pools, open-water swimming and strenuous physical activity during the first month.

The Work of Dr Mohammed Shbair
Mohammed, let us discuss a procedure that has become popular not only among patients in Kazakhstan. We are talking about rhinoplasty. How often do you perform this type of surgery?
Dr Mohammed Shbair: “Rhinoplasty Is Not Only About Appearance — It Is Also About Health”
Young, friendly, sociable and full of positive energy, Dr Mohammed Shbair may not match the stereotypical image of an experienced plastic surgeon. However, after meeting him, patients quickly understand why they can trust him with something as important as their appearance, health and confidence.
Exclusive: Diana Ivanova’s Transformation Story
Six experienced doctors took part in a procedure that had never previously been performed in Kazakhstan. Diana Ivanova’s story attracted the attention of both Kazakhstani and international journalists.
Dr. Mohammed Shbair: “Asian Noses Are Among the Most Challenging”
How popular is rhinoplasty among men in Kazakhstan? What challenges do plastic surgeons and patients face after surgery? And how much does a procedure that can change both a person’s appearance and quality of life cost? These questions were answered by Dr Mohammed Shbair, one of Kazakhstan’s leading ENT and plastic surgeons, a member of the Association of Plastic Surgeons and the ENT Department of Chosun University in South Korea, an assistant at KazMUNO and a member of NSAPA Kazakhstan.
